The Municipality of Lassithi Plateau, one of the 4 Municipalities of the Prefecture of Lassithi, occupies most of the western side of the mountain complex of Diki, accompanying to the east the Municipalities of Ierapetra and Ag. Nikolaou, south with the Municipality of Viannos, west with the Municipality of Kastelli, and north with the Municipality of Hersonissos. The Kapodistrian Municipality of Lassithi Plateau came from the unification of the old communities of the former province of Lassithi, local councils have joined, and its seat is Tzermiadon. Earlier, in the year 1879, when the administrative deletion of Crete provided for the creation of Municipalities, in the then province of Lassithi two Municipalities were established: the Municipality of Tzermiades and the Municipality of Psychrou, and this shape was maintained in the Cretan State. The mountainous Municipality of Lassithi Plateau in its entire area is located at an altitude of over 800 m. It is the only Municipality of an island region that does not touch the sea at any point, which at the nearest point (Malia) is in a straight line around 8 km.
