On November 5, 1943, six (6) Tzermiadonians were executed by the occupying troops and the dosilogos. They were: Georgios Papadakis, notary and member of the Lassithi Plateau EAM, the brothers Konstantinos Pytharoulis, Georgios Pytharoulis and Emmanouil Pytharoulis, Nikolaos Spanakis and Ioannis Tsamandouras, all farmers and residents of the Lassithi Plateau who were executed by the death squads of Suber on November 5, 1943.
The first, after being abused, was dragged, covered in blood, west of Tzermiadon to the location of Mothonio where he was executed in cold blood, leaving his body unburied, inside the adjacent wagon. The other five were taken east to the “Kefalia” location near the Tzermiadon cemetery, where they were executed en masse after brutally abusing them at the execution site.
Earlier on November 3, 1943, the Souberites, at the instigation of their traitorous collaborators, passed through Avrakonte and Koudoumalia where they executed in cold blood Emmanuel Kalykakis and Adamantios Karofylakis, arriving on the same day in Agios Georgios where they abused many residents, carried out mock executions, implemented the phalanx and terrorized the people.
The Lasithi Plateau must remember and honor its fallen fighters.
