According to an excavation carried out in the area of Plati, a very large complex from the Minoan period was uncovered, dating back to before 1700 B.C., with very significant findings. It is located very close to the Dictaean Cave and the excavations conducted by the British in 1914, also in Plati, in the area of ‘Kato Kefali,’ next to Agios Alexandros.
There, a large palace was brought to light, which was later reburied by the British without ever publishing its exact location. Only a few photographs from that time exist in Oxford. Geophysical surveys were conducted, and ground-penetrating radar detected the palatial structure.
