In a house from the occupation period, built with strict local architecture, all the items have been placed with reverence and respect for their original setting, so that their functional use is highlighted. Worn in many ways by time, it is the only preserved house of the Lasithi Plateau.
The reception room, the main room or “portego,” with the fireplace, the loom, the oven, and the wine press that easily transforms into a matrimonial bed. At the back, there is the storage room, the cellar, or “kamera” with jars of various sizes, which were used as storage spaces, and on the left, the barn with the animals’ feed.
The stable, a separate room to the left of the entrance, houses all the agricultural tools, such as the Hesiodic plow, the bolosiro (a type of plow), the yoke, and the animal feeders, also known as “matzadoures.”
In a separate room on the right side of the museum, tools from all the trades of the time are displayed, while in the courtyard, some old water-lifting devices from the Lasithi Plateau area are exhibited.
